Video installations

During DocPoint festival the hall areas of Bio Rex, Kiasma and Maxim theatres are spiced by video art. The video installations by different artists are all thematically connected to documentaries. On view is among others Seppo Renvall’s newest experimental full-length film EesTaas and Maija Saksman’s Työnkuvia Helsingistä and Kohtaamisia Kampissa. On view are also Maria Dunker’s, Mika Ripatti’s, Kari Yliannala’s and Juha van Ingen’s works from Co-operative FixC and Elina Bäckman’s works.

The 3-screen installation Double-8 by Elina Bäckman explores humanity in its cruelest form – the specific means of dispatching that has been applied to both human beings and animals in the past, at present and will further be applied in future.

The film focuses on investigating the similarities of the extermination procedures concerning both and observes human nature. The work is based on the research of the archive material and on the interviews made at the concentration camp in 2006.
