In Dubrovnik the evening will be opened by DocPoint Tallinn’s representatives, who will talk about organising the festival on the southern side of the Gulf of Finland. Meelis Muhu (b. 1972) is an Estonian documentary director whose best-known documentary, Alyosha (Aljoša), depicting the Bronze Night unrest in Estonia, came out in 2008. Shot on the Kihnu island, both Kihnu Wooing and Kihnu Wedding continue the theme of depicting Estonia’s history and traditions.

'TIS A TRUE DOCUMENTARY – and Is Released Now!
5pm−6.45pm

“At its best, documentary film is movement and moving to a new or more open place, to new views of reality.” Antti Haase, documentary director
Organised during DocPoint, the book release of “Tokallinen toellisuutta. ” features the writers explaining the documentary in relation to their own creative work. Traditional and modern Sami yoik will be performed by Ulla Pirttijärvi-Länsman with her ULDA band. Dance artist Titta Court will also perform.
For the first time the many facets of documentary expression, as it is presented in documentary film, radio documentary, documentary photography, fiction writing, visual arts, dance and sound art, will be compiled in one book. The broad horizon of the brand new book is the Nordic dimension, culture, point of view and identity. All ten writers of the article collection have their connection to the North: roots, current home or the origin of their work. The book has been edited by Pia-Maria Lausas.
The release event will be organized by Kemi-Tornio University of Applied Sciences in cooperation with DocPoint. Small northern snacks and drinks will be served.

OFFPOINT: VIDEO INSTALLATION TV VERITÉ
Documentarism goes beyond documentary films. During DocPoint one can admire a set of video installations compiled by media artists Seppo Renvall and Maija Saksman in the lobby of Bio Rex's 2nd floor. The artists have positioned themselves in the urban theatre of the streets and encounters have been documented from city to nature. The soundscape of the videos includes for example Aslak Christiansson's documentary songs.
