Events 2010

During the festival there will be a vast variety of side events dealing with documentary film. From Tuesday to Saturday there are many interesting seminars and lectures, as well as great clubs. There will also be an off festival – Off Point.

The students of the Aalto University film school organize a seminar about the current state and the future of Finnish cinema.

10pm–2am / Opening club
Traditional Finnish tango by Vallilan Tango at DocPoint opening club at Virgin Oil Co.

7pm–9pm / Discussion topic: American indie
Directors Michael Palmieri and Donal Mosher, as well as producer Pamela Cohn, discuss the everyday reality of documentary filmmakers working alongside the dream industry.

2pm–4pm / Polish documentaries through the eyes of Marcel Łoziński
Marcel Łoziński explains how the political situation in Poland has influenced the country’s documentary film production and his own work.

4.30pm / Sami van Ingen lectures: The New Voice of Moana
Sami van Ingen introduces Moana and tells about the backgrounds of its rarely seen sound version.

DocPoint Encounters at Ateneum Hall
On Friday DocPoint Encounters focuses on the distribution and marketing of documentary films.

3pm–4.30pm / The Story Tent at Kiasma
In a screening at Kiasma Theatre, The Story Tent presents comical and confusing sneak peeks at the stories recorded in the summer of 2009.

5pm–7pm / Peter von Bagh lectures: The essence of documentary film
Peter von Bagh lectures on the history of documentary film, focusing on the pioneers of the genre.

9pm / Henri Seger and his guitar at Painobaari

Henri Seger from the electro group KA SO RE plays acoustic cover songs e.g. from Neil Young, Oasis, Radiohead and Belle & Sebastian.

12pm–2pm / Defining Borders and Taking Risks seminar
Come and hear what a person having hidden a deportee, a documentary filmmaker, a foster parent and a priest working with homosexuals have to say, when they are given five minutes.

3pm–4.30pm / Finland Post Mortem
Workshop films about school shootings and about the time following them, made by local students of Kauhajoki.

5pm–6.30pm / Presenting Kiti Luostarinen – Aho & Soldan -awarded director
The winner of this year’s Aho & Soldan Lifetime Achievement Award discusses her work after a film screening. The event includes a live performance by Ulla Koivisto.

9pm–4am / DocPoint club
At DocPoint Club: A Guide for Confusion – audiovisual live performance and Finnish indie stars Risto and Manna.

7pm–2am / DocPoint goes indie
The 2010 DocPoint ends on Sunday with an indie music evening at Painobaari. The djs of the evening are Dj Forrester & Helena Markos, who also run their own club at restaurant Nolla.
